the playoffs began in 1972.
- Four former Aplington-Parkersburg football players
have played in the National Football League. Casey Wiegmann
(class of 1990) starts at center for the Kansas City
Chiefs, Jared DeVries (class of 1994) is a defensive
end for the Detroit Lions, Brad Meester (class of 1995)
is the starting offensive center for the Jacksonville
Jaguars, and Aaron Kampman (class of 1998) is a starting
defensive end for the Green Bay Packers.
- These players, along with the Aplington-Parkersburg
school, are featured in the Hall of Pride in Des Moines,
Iowa.
COMMUNITY:
- City Pool: Home of the Barracudas Swim
Team, the Parkersburg Municipal Swimming Pool has 6 racing
lanes, a slide, two diving boards, a water basketball hoop
and a baby pool The pool opens the weekend after school
gets out, from 1-9pm. Lessons are available twice a season.
- Depot Park/Wolfe's Landing: Depot Park
is a quaint park located along the Beaver River. With a
railroad theme, the park is home to the original depot building
and a caboose along with a themed playground. Wolf's Landing
is a 2 diamond baseball/softball complex used for little
league baseball.
- Big Marsh: Big Marsh is located 6 miles
north of Parkersburg and is the largest marsh in the state
of Iowa. It contains over 3000 acres of ground for public
hunting, fishing, bird watching and hiking.
